The Bronzeville neighborhood where African American culture has been a mainstay is going through a revitalization. In its heyday, the neighborhood celebrated African American culture through jazz, blues and the arts with visitors including Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington and Nat “King” Cole. The current revitalization looks to bring back this vibe. Local artist, Laci Coppins, worked with St. Marcus students of Our Story Arts to initiate conversations centering around the beautification and hopes for the city of Milwaukee. The Voices from the Community: Visions for Milwaukee art project sought to invigorate public spaces.
